Creation Laboratory
A writing close to the actor. A singular experience.
What is it?
Pierre-Etienne Vilbert, playwright and director, created the Creation Laboratory in 2005.
Sometimes it's an annual theater workshop for amateurs, who live an exciting experience, sometimes it's a creative and demanding process with professional actors, and sometimes it's an original and short workshop for adults and children. Each time, a new story is born.
Four versions available
Creation Laboratory: the Annual Theater Workshop
Each new edition starts with a theme on which the improvisations and writing will be based.
As they go along, scenes are written by Pierre-Etienne Vilbert, then worked on stage by the group.
The characters created are fully inspired by the "nature" of each and everyone, constituting the highly appreciated singularity of this approach.
A delightful 3-step process
The first few hours allow us to create a common language, to discover how to act on stage, how to relate to our partners, how to listen to them, etc., and to unify the group.
Then, the second objective is to lead to the writing of scenes of theater which will constitute little by little the play itself.
When the play is finalized, the play and the staging are then considered with the participants. The whole team is involved at each step (choice of costumes, props...) until the ultimate public presentation.
Number of participants
minimum 5 / maximum 10
For whom ?
Amateur and/or experienced actors of all generations.
The only requirement is to commit to the entire process.
Duration
Often between 60 and 80 hours, in sessions of 3 to 4 hours + the rehearsal time of the final piece
Creation Laboratory : the Adult Intensive Workshop
Taking place over one to two weeks, each workshop starts with a theme on which improvisations and writing will be based.
As the workshop progresses, scenes are written by Pierre-Etienne Vilbert, then worked on by the group on stage.
The characters created are fully inspired by the "nature" of each and everyone, constituting the highly appreciated singularity of this approach.
An intense and unforgettable experience
The first few hours allow us to create a common language, both to discover the game on the stage, the relationship with the partner, listening...etc, and to federate the group.
Then, very quickly, the first brainstorming sessions take place to find possible character tracks. The writing of the scenes that will constitute the play is done at the end of each day, in order to be able, from the second day, to work on the text and continue to make the story grow.
The staging is then envisaged with the participants as the text arrives and gradually draws the contours of the final play. The whole team is involved at each step (choice of costumes, props...) until the ultimate public presentation.
Number of participants
Minimum 4 / maximum 8
For whom ?
Amateur and/or experienced actors of all generations.
The only requirement is to commit to the entire process.
Duration
One to two weeks of immersion
Creation Laboratory: the Children's Discovery Workshop
Short workshop that seeks to develop the children's imagination to make them experience an approach to theater.
The first few hours allow the creation of a common language in order to learn how to play on stage, how to relate to their partners, how to improve their listening skills and how to initiate themselves into creative improvisation.
The children become the driving force behind their imaginary characters, which they are encouraged to develop over the course of the sessions.
The workshop concludes with the recording of an imaginary radio show in which the children's "creatures" are invited, a show that the parents will have the pleasure of discovering a few days later.
Number of participants
Minimum 4 / maximum 6
For whom ?
Children from 9 to 13 years old
Duration
Between 2 and 5 days, with at least 4 sessions of 3 hours each
Creation Laboratory : Professional Creation Process
Taking place over a minimum of two weeks, the Professional Creation Laboratory starts with a theme or existing material on which dramaturgical research, improvisations and eventually writing will be based.
As the weeks go by, scenes are written by Pierre-Etienne Vilbert, then worked on by the actors and actresses on stage, drawing the outlines of an unpublished play.
As always, the "scores" created are fully inspired by the "nature" of each and everyone, constituting the highly appreciated singularity of this approach.
Number of participants
As many as needed, rarely more than 10
For whom ?
Professional actors and actresses
Duration
At least 2 to 3 weeks of work immersion
